The yoga Sundial pose or Ardha Chandrasana

The yoga Sundial pose, otherwise known as Ardha Chandrasana, is an incredibly beneficial yoga posture that helps to strengthen and stretch the body’s muscles and joints. It is particularly useful in aiding digestion, as it helps to stimulate the digestive system and increase its efficiency. The Sundial pose is also a great way to improve posture and balance, as it encourages an upright stance with the arms and legs held in an open, straight line.

When practicing the Sundial pose, the body should be in a standing position with the feet hip-width apart. The arms should be outstretched to the side, forming a “T” shape. The right hand should be placed on the right hip, with the left hand resting on the left hip. The gaze should then be directed toward the ceiling, while the chest remains open and the spine stays tall and straight.

The pose begins by bending the right knee and slowly lowering the body until the right thigh is parallel to the floor, while the left leg remains straight. The right arm should be extended to the side, with the left arm reaching out in front. The right hip should be lifted first, followed by the left hip, as the right foot is pressed firmly into the ground and the left leg is slowly extended back. Keep the arms and legs in an open, straight line and hold the pose for 30-60 seconds.

The benefits of the Sundial pose are numerous. It helps to strengthen and stretch the entire body, including the abdominal muscles, arms, legs, and spine. It is also known to improve circulation, digestion, posture, and balance. Additionally, the pose can be beneficial to those suffering from lower back pain, as it helps to relieve tension in the lower back muscles.

When practicing the Sundial pose, it is important to remember to keep the chest open and the gaze directed towards the ceiling. It is also essential to keep the arms and legs in an open, straight line, and to keep the body in a comfortable and relaxed position. Finally, be sure to take deep breaths and hold the pose for 30-60 seconds, or until the body is fully warmed up and ready to move on to the next pose.

The yoga Sundial pose is a great way to strengthen and stretch the entire body, improve digestion and circulation, and improve posture and balance. With regular practice, you can enjoy the many physical and mental benefits this pose has to offer!
